神聖ケルト派カトリック教会国際連盟（Holy Celtic Church International ：HCCI） は、キリスト教のなかで「独立カトリック（Independent Catholic）」または「リベラルカトリック（Liberal Catholic）」の流れを汲む、比較的小規模で伝統主義的な一派です。
ローマ・カトリック教会や英国国教会（聖公会）、あるいは東方正教会といった主流派組織には属していませんが、それらの伝統を融合させた独自の立場をとっています。
主な特徴とキリスト教内での位置付けは以下の通りです。
- 宗派上の位置付け
独立・リベラルカトリックの流れ: ローマ・カトリックの位階制からは独立していますが、司祭や司教の正当な継承（使徒継承）を保持していると自認しています。
伝統と神秘主義の融合: 中世的な典礼を重んじ、キリスト教を秘教的・神秘主義的な視点から解釈する傾向があります。 - 信仰と伝統のハイブリッド
HCCIは、複数のキリスト教伝統から影響を受けています。
ケルトの伝統: 古代のケルトキリスト教が持っていた「自然の中に神を見出す」霊性や、修道院中心の簡素な信仰スタイルを大切にしています。
古いカトリックの遺産: 典礼（礼拝の形式）において中世的なカトリックの美学や伝統を強く継承しています。
神智学・東洋思想への開放性: 創設に関わった人物の影響もあり、キリスト教の教義を心理学や東洋の知恵と結びつけて解釈することに肯定的です。 - 組織の現状
拠点: 本部はスイスにあり、現在の指導者は総大司教アリステア・ベイト猊下（Rt Revd Dom Alistair Bate）です。
規模: 世界各地（6大陸）に小規模なミッションや隠修士の活動拠点がありますが、巨大な教団組織というよりは、スピリチュアルな探求者のためのコミュニティという性質が強いです。
HCCIは、主流派の厳格な教義よりも、「伝統的な儀式」と「個人の自由な精神的探求」の両立を求める人々にとっての受け皿という独特のポジションを占めています。
当教会は、2000年の教会の伝統を重んじ、すべてのキリスト教徒の皆様、そして独自の歩みを経てこられた皆様との平和を願っております。私たちの歩む道について、いくつかの点をご説明いたします。
・使徒継承と当教会の「正統性」について
キリスト教の歴史において、信仰の正統性を支える大切な柱の一つが「使徒継承」です。これは主イエス・キリストの弟子である使徒たちが、その権能を次世代へと託した「按手（あんしゅ）」の連鎖を指します。
当教会の司祭（首席司祭）は、この2000年間途切れることなく受け継がれてきた聖なるバトンタッチの列に連なっています。私たちは、この「手から手へ」と受け継がれた霊的な系譜を、主から委ねられた大切な宝として守り続けています。
・私たちのスタンス ―― 相互の尊重と対話
私たちは、使徒継承という歴史的事実と、聖体の中に主の実在を認める「全質変化」の信仰を拠り所としています。
教派によって神学的解釈や伝統の捉え方は異なります。そのため、この継承を保持しない立場（主にプロテスタント諸派）からの異なる見解に対しては、あえて議論で応じることはいたしません。前提とする立脚点が異なる以上、議論は平行線になりやすく、それよりも互いの「信仰の自由」を沈黙をもって尊重することこそが、主にある平和への道だと信じているからです。
一方で、同じく使徒継承の伝統を分かち合うローマ・カトリック、正教会、聖公会の皆様とは、共通の遺産を重んじる仲間として、常に真摯な対話と交流の門を開いております。
・なぜ「リベラル」かつ「ケルト」なのか
私たちは、教義による強制や排他主義を退けます。
リベラル: すべての人が持つ知性と直感、そして信教の自由を尊重します。
ケルト: 万物に神の息吹を見る古代ケルトの霊性を尊び、自然と共生する祈りの形を追求します。
当教会は、教条主義に縛られることなく、キリストの愛と叡智を現代に活かそうとするすべての人に開かれた、正統かつ自由な聖域です。しかしすべてが自由というわけではありません。私たちは民事上の離婚や避妊、個人の性的志向には自由なスタンスを取りますが、女性の叙階や堕胎については保守的な立場にあります。
・私たちの信仰 ―― 内なる「神の火花」
私たちは、すべての人の内奥には、決して消えることのない「神の火花」が宿っていると信じています。
過去の経歴や、これまでどのような場所で、どのような評価を受けてきたかは問題ではありません。人は誰しも、その存在そのものの深みに、神聖な命の光を宿しています。
当教会のミサでは、どなたでも聖体拝領に与ることができます。それは、内なる「神の火花」を組織の教理や人間の理屈で区別し、排除してはならないと考えるからです。自分を責め、行き場を失い、心の火が消えかかっていると感じている方も、どうぞ安心してお越しください。
・これまでの信仰を捨てる必要はありません
当教会は、新しく集われる方に、これまでの歩みや信仰を捨てる（棄教する）ことを求めません。
私たちは、あらゆる真実な祈りの根底には、等しく「善」への希求があると信じています。あなたがこれまで大切にしてきた信仰や祈りの心は、否定されるべきものではなく、尊いプロセスの一部です。
特定の組織への忠誠を強いるのではなく、一人ひとりの内にある「神の火花」がより健やかに輝くお手伝いをすること。それが私たちの願いです。これまでの歩みを抱えたままの「今のあなた」として、土曜20時の静かなミサに加わっていただければ幸いです。
About Us
The Holy Celtic Church International (HCCI) is a relatively small, traditionalist branch within Christianity that follows the lineage of Independent Catholicism or Liberal Catholicism. While it is not affiliated with mainstream organizations such as the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, or the orthodox church, it maintains a unique position by blending these traditions.
Its key characteristics and position within Christianity are as follows:
- Denominational Position
Independent and Liberal Catholic Lineage: While independent from the Roman Catholic hierarchy, it claims to maintain valid Apostolic Succession for its priests and bishops.
Fusion of Tradition and Mysticism: It places great importance on medieval liturgy and tends to interpret Christianity through esoteric and mystical lenses. - A Hybrid of Faith and Tradition
The HCCI is influenced by multiple Christian traditions:
Celtic Tradition: It cherishes the spirituality of ancient Celtic Christianity, which finds the Divine in nature, and favors a simple, monastic-centered style of faith.
Old Catholic Heritage: It strongly carries forward the aesthetics and traditions of medieval Catholicism in its liturgy (forms of worship).
Openness to Theosophy and Eastern Thought: Influenced by its founding figures, the church is open to interpreting Christian doctrine in connection with psychology and Eastern wisdom. - Organizational Status
Headquarters: Based in Switzerland, it is currently led by the Primus, the Rt Revd Dom Alistair Bate.
Scale: While it has small missions and eremitic (hermitage) activities across six continents, it functions more as a community for spiritual seekers rather than a large ecclesiastical organization.
The HCCI occupies a unique niche, serving as a haven for those who seek to reconcile traditional rituals with individual spiritual freedom, rather than adhering to the rigid dogmas of mainstream denominations.
Our church deeply honors the 2,000-year tradition of the Church. We pray for peace with all Christians and those who have walked their own unique spiritual paths. We would like to share a few points regarding our journey and stance.
Apostolic Succession and the “Orthodoxy” of Our Church
In Christian history, “Apostolic Succession” is a vital pillar supporting the orthodoxy of faith. This refers to the continuous chain of the “laying on of hands,” through which the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ entrusted their authority to the next generation.
The priests (and the Presiding Bishop) of our church stand within this sacred lineage, which has been passed down without interruption for 2,000 years. We cherish and protect this spiritual lineage—this “hand-to-hand” transmission—as a precious treasure entrusted to us by the Lord.
Our Stance: Mutual Respect and Dialogue
Our faith is rooted in the historical fact of Apostolic Succession and the belief in “Transubstantiation,” the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Theological interpretations and traditions vary among denominations. Therefore, we choose not to engage in debates regarding differing views from those who do not hold this succession (primarily Protestant denominations). Since our foundational premises differ, arguments often result in parallel lines. Instead, we believe that respecting each other’s “freedom of faith” through silence is the best path toward peace in the Lord.
On the other hand, we always keep our doors open for sincere dialogue and fellowship with members of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican churches, who share the same tradition of Apostolic Succession as fellow guardians of a common heritage.
Why “Liberal” and “Celtic”?
We reject dogmatic coercion and exclusivism.
Liberal: We respect the intellect, intuition, and freedom of belief inherent in every individual.
Celtic: We honor the ancient Celtic spirituality that perceives the divine breath in all creation, pursuing a form of prayer that coexists with nature.
Our church is an orthodox yet free sanctuary open to all who seek to apply the love and wisdom of Christ to the modern world without being bound by dogmatism. However, freedom is not without boundaries. While we maintain a liberal stance on civil divorce, contraception, and individual sexual orientation, we uphold a conservative position regarding the ordination of women and the issue of abortion
Our Faith: The Inner “Divine Spark”
We believe that within every person dwells an unquenchable “Divine Spark.”
Your past, the places you have been, or the labels others have placed upon you do not matter. Every human being carries the light of sacred life in the depths of their very existence.
In our Mass, everyone is welcome to receive Holy Communion. This is because we believe that the inner “Divine Spark” must not be categorized or excluded by organizational dogmas or human logic. If you are struggling with self-blame, feel lost, or feel as though your inner fire is fading, please come as you are and find peace.
No Need to Abandon Your Previous Faith
Our church does not require those who join us to abandon their previous beliefs or paths (abjuration).
We believe that at the root of every sincere prayer lies a shared longing for “the Good.” The faith you have cherished and the heart of prayer you have cultivated are not to be denied; they are a precious part of your spiritual process.
Rather than demanding loyalty to a specific organization, our wish is to help the “Divine Spark” within each individual shine more healthily. We invite you to join our quiet Mass at 8:00 PM on Saturdays, just as you are, without denying any part of your journey thus far.
